The Department of Communication Studies at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) recently took part in a career guidance seminar organized by University Practice Senior High School (UPSHS). The event aimed to provide final year high school students with insights into various academic programs offered at UCC.
Speaking at the seminar, a lecturer at the Department of Communication Studies, Dr. Daniel Edem Adzovie, outlined the structure and specializations of the B.A. Communication Studies program. He explained that the program was designed around three major strands: Journalism & Media Studies, Rhetoric Studies, and Strategic Communication. (Advertising & Public Relations)
A crucial component of the Communication Studies program was the mandatory industrial attachment that students complete in their third year. Dr. Adzovie shared that the department had secured placements for students in various communication and media organizations to facilitate this practical experience.
Furthermore, the department has established collaborations with institutions abroad, including partnerships with universities in Germany and Sweden, offering students opportunities for international exposure and experiences.
Dr. Adzovie emphasized the versatility of the communication field, highlighting that graduates can explore diverse industries and sectors that require effective communication and messaging skills.
The career guidance seminar, which featured presentations from various schools and faculties of the University, provided prospective students with a comprehensive understanding of the academic programs and career prospects available at the university.
